The neighbor to the west of the Zilker neighborhood is Barton Hills and is bordered on the west side by Mopac down to Loop 360. Many of the homes were built in the 1970s and 1980s, and quite a few overhang the Barton Greenbelt, which wraps around the western edge. Barton Hills is a close walk to the Barton Springs Pool, which is the fourth largest natural spring in Texas and provides all of Austin a cool place come have a swim. The neighborhood elementary schools consistently get top marks from state education officials, making Barton Hills a popular location for young families. The newest condo projects along Barton Springs Road offer great views of Downtown and Zilker Park, home to the Austin City Limits Music Festival and the Trail of Lights. The 358 acre Zilker Park is also a short walk away as is the multitude of restaurants on Barton Springs, including Austin Java, Shady Grove, Green Mesquite, and Billie’s BBQ.
